Masked Mourner at Ayatollah Khamenei’s Funeral: Speculation and Revelation

That masked mourner at Ayatollah Khamenei’s funeral really got everyone talking about who he was. People online were immediately speculating, wondering if it might have been Mojtaba Khamenei himself in disguise. It just added another layer of mystery to the whole affair.

The disappearance of Mojtaba since his father died that absence from public view it keeps fueling these kinds of rumors about who’s supposed to take over as Iran’s Supreme Leader .

State television did show Mostafa, Meysam and Masoud Khamenei standing by the coffins at Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran. Thousands were there mourning.

Then you had this masked figure appearing. It only made things more intriguing. Some users immediately suggested it was Mojtaba hiding his face. A wild guess, maybe.

But then the official side stepped in. Iranian authorities released an announcement suggesting something different. They said Iran’s new Supreme Leader , Mojtaba Khamenei, would hold a memorial ceremony for his father next week. That implies this might be his first public appearance since Ali Khamenei passed away.

The notice mentioned it was a ceremony honoring the “martyred mujahid Imam.” It was scheduled for July 23th, five to seven in the evening.

That masked mourner? He was clearly visible. Dressed all black, baseball cap, face mask. He was seen right up front helping lead the prayers for the assassinated leader.

Yet, that speculation seemed to fizzle out quickly. It didn't hold water.

Iran International reported later that it wasn’t Mojtaba Khamenei who showed up. It was Mohammad Javad Khamenei the slain ayatollah’s eldest grandson.

Javad reportedly suffered terrible facial burns during those February 28th US-Israeli airstrikes that killed Ali Khamenei. Those strikes seriously disfigured Mojtaba Khamenei too, according to what US intelligence has been citing.

Mohammad Javad is the son of Mostafa Khamenei, who was Ali Khamenei’s eldest son, born around 1965. That context just piles on.

The former ruler was laid to rest on Thursday after a six-day mourning period. State media claimed nearly forty-three million people showed up for that. A massive turnout.

Meanwhile, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since those strikes, did send something out. He posted a message on Telegram on Saturday. It was a vow of vengeance for his father’s death.
