India's Plan for an AI-Powered Global Engagement Platform

India is talking about launching something huge an AI-powered global engagement platform . It’s all aimed at connecting better with its diaspora, these 55 million people and their "friends" across the world.

The Modi government is pushing for this. They want to launch INDIQO, which stands for India Quiz Global Outreach. Think of it as taking the existing Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz and turning it into something that runs all year long. A digital platform, powered by AI, trying to do some serious outreach.

Details show this thing is supposed to reach an estimated 55 million people globally. That includes over 35 million Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin NRIs and PIOs/OCIs. But it’s not just them. They're targeting nearly 20 million foreign nationals who just have an interest in India, its culture, how it plays a growing role out there.

Officials are betting this overseas community is massive soft-power. Potential for boosting investment, tourism, cultural exchanges, academic links. That’s the big potential they see. But there's a sticking point, though. The document suggests that engagement has been pretty limited until now. It relies way too much on those periodic events.

That brings us to the quiz itself. The 2024 Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz was a success, right? They got over 1.08 lakh participants from 203 countries and territories. That’s the widest global participation since they started this whole initiative back in 2015. Good achievement. But the ministry points out that even that number is just a tiny sliver of what could be reached. It highlights the need for something permanent, not just annual events.

So INDIQO isn't just another quiz. It’s envisioned as this always-on, mobile-first edutainment platform. Running round the clock. People can jump in and do quizzes, crosswords, puzzles, word games. Interactive learning modules. Fact cards. Live competitions. All centered around India history, culture, science, whatever it is.

The annual quiz will still be there. It’ll be a flagship event. But INDIQO becomes the bigger strategy. The main push isn't just one big quiz anymore.

And they aren't stopping there either. The government plans to shove other diaspora initiatives into this same digital ecosystem. Things like the Know India Programme, the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children, and those Pravasi Bharatiya Divas gatherings. They want it all under one roof. A "one-stop shop" for connecting overseas with India.

They’ve given the project a runway. It's approved for an initial three years. That means they’re looking at 2026 to 2028 to get this thing rolling. Things are moving, but it’s still a long way from reality, you know?
