Lohagad Fort: Mystery, History, and Unsettling Legends

The death of Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old realtor, at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala in Maharashtra wasn't just an accident, not initially. It was brushed off. Just a fall.

But then things started shifting. Days later, the real story emerged. He hadn’t fallen by accident. His fiancée, Siya Goyal , and her boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary they pushed him into that 400-foot gorge. A shocking murder plot, all of it unfolding right there at the fort site.

That tragedy immediately dragged the historic monument into the spotlight. People started looking past the stone walls. They looked for something darker inside Lohagad Fort.

You know, the place has always had a reputation. It’s one of those spots steeped in mystery. Not just stories, but actual whispers about ghosts and strange sightings.

It’s wild how that history mixes with the recent horror. Some people claim they've seen figures walking along the walls. Others talk about shapes appearing for a second before vanishing into nothing. But honestly? there’s zero document proof for any of it. It just hangs there, unspoken.

Lohagad itself is tucked deep into the Sahyadri ranges. ‘Iron Fort,’ they call it. It’s near Lonavala, Pune area. An iconic spot for trekking, obviously. Ancient history, going back two thousand years.

The foundations were laid during the Satavahana time, things that old. Then came the medieval period, when fortifying really kicked in. Later rulers expanded it, strengthened it. It was central to Maratha power then. Specifically, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used it heavily. It wasn't just a hill; it was part of his defensive setup. A treasury. An administrative hub.

When the Marathas faded, the British took over. That’s how things went down eventually.

But all that history the forts and the legends it just sits there now. It creates this weird tension. You walk up there, you see the views, but you can't shake the feeling. The paranormal stuff seems to amplify when you think about what happened in the real world.

If you actually want to visit it, which is easy enough geographically, you head toward Lonavala or Pune. It’s about eleven kilometers from Lonavala and sixty from Pune. You hit Malavli Railway Station first. From there, grab a shared auto-rickshaw or an SUV heading towards Lohagadwadi. Or, some people just drive straight to the base village themselves.

It gets you there fast enough. But honestly, getting to that spot feels like stepping into something already unsettled.
