Dharmendra Pradhan on NEET Exam 2026 and Re-examination

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister, admitted things went wrong with the NEET exam 2026. It was cancelled because of those paper leaks. But he insisted the central government moved fast. They fixed what went wrong and managed to hold that re-exam successfully.

When talking about it, Pradhan seemed really focused on the students. He said they had lapses, that they corrected them. “We accept there were mistakes on our side and we fixed them,” he told CNN-News18. It felt like an admission, not just a formality.

Then came the message for everyone the aspirants and their families. He pushed this idea: be positive. Believe in the system. Said PM Modi was doing things. The whole setup got back on track. There were mistakes made before, sure.

He also pointed out that all the states actually helped make the exam run okay. Not just the center acting alone.

But there was more to it than just fixing exams. Pradhan brought up the “paper mafia.” He swore action would be taken against them. Said they’d set up a fast-track court thing so trials move quicker. That felt serious, you know? Protecting the future stuff.

The focus shifted quickly. When opposition voices started attacking the Centre for using the armed forces during the exam, Pradhan jumped in with a defensive line. He asked, what was the problem if the Indian Air Force and CAPF were used for the youth of India? A direct pushback there.

Then things got sharper, turning political fast. He brought up Rahul Gandhi. Accused him of trying to create fear among the youth. Said that opposition shouldn’t be doing politics like this. He claimed Rahul Gandhi misled the aspirants. Don't scare the new generation. Everyone has a responsibility toward them.

He seemed annoyed about the timing, though. That opposition rally in Kota just before the exam? He said that wasn't appropriate. Not when the future of students was on the line.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency, NTA, released some numbers. More than 20 lakh candidates actually sat for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination. That happened across 5,440 centers in India and even fourteen places overseas. They managed it in thirteen languages Hindi, English included.

The agency also detailed the security setup. Aadhaar biometrics, face checks, CCTV cameras everywhere. Jammers deployed. Two layers of frisking with state police backing everything at the exam sites. It was a lot of infrastructure thrown up just to run the test safely.
