Cab Driver Allegedly Abducted Child, Faces Rape and Murder Charges

The 29-year-old cab driver, Bashu Kumar Singh , allegedly returned to work shortly after being accused of a horrific series of crimes. He’s the one said to have abducted a ten-year-old girl from South Delhi. Then there were the allegations of rape and murder, with the body supposedly hidden somewhere in Gurugram.
Police are saying he was caught hours later. He picked up another passenger and acted like nothing was wrong until they finally arrested him. It’s a messy situation unfolding right now.
The whole thing kicked off early Monday morning near Chattarpur Metro station. That's where the girl was reportedly sleeping, just on the pavement with her parents and some daily-wage laborers nearby.
Around 4:15 am, things allegedly changed. Singh parked his white hatchback close by. Then he supposedly took the child while she was asleep. A PCR call went out to Mehrauli police station at 4:58 am. That’s when the search actually began.
Investigators found him around 11 am in Vikaspuri, west Delhi. He had just dropped a passenger there when he was caught. One source told us something about his demeanor during questioning. Little emotion. No remorse. And constantly changing what he said happened. It's all very contradictory.
There’s also this part about the background. Singh is from Bihar. His family lives there. And police are looking into something else too. They found out he had reportedly consumed marijuana before everything started.
The story changes depending on who you ask him now. He gave completely different versions of what actually occurred. One version, he claimed, involved an assault near Fatehpur Beri in his car. But then there’s the other claim that just flies off the handle. He said he drove into a forested stretch along the Faridabad-Gurugram road. There, he allegedly raped her. Strangled her with cloth. And hit her chest with a stone.
Police reported that he led them to the spot later, around 5 pm. The body was supposedly covered in stones. That made sense, they think. It was an attempt to delay discovery and destroy any evidence possible. Post-mortem was done on the body.
He also floated this idea during interrogation. He claimed he first planned to return the child. But then he fled once he saw the police. They are checking that part now, see if it holds water.
Forensic teams looked at the car and the location itself. Samples were collected from everything. It’s all very heavy evidence gathering right now.
So what’s the official charge? A case got registered under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. And then for rape, kidnapping, and murder, according to the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are saying they haven't found any other involvement yet. But a chargesheet is definitely coming down the line.
