Nana Kwaku Bonsam: Claims, Curses, and Controversy

Nana Kwaku Bonsam. That’s his name. It literally translates to “Devil of Wednesday,” and around here in Ghana, he’s just known as a witch doctor. Strange stuff.
He made headlines recently because he started talking about putting a curse on England captain Harry Kane. He said it was all for Ghana, hoping to give them an advantage in their FIFA World Cup group-stage meeting on Tuesday.
Bonsam told Daily Star something like this: “I am working on Harry Kane.” He claimed he’d shown what he could do before, so now he knows exactly what work needs doing to stop him. He said he is famous for his predictions. Not wishing serious injury, though. Just enough to hold him back against his country. It would help Ghana.
Kane didn't find the back of the net in that goalless draw with Ghana at Boston Stadium on Tuesday. Funny how things turn out. Kane had scored twice last week in England’s 4–2 win over Croatia. A solid game, maybe.
This isn’t some first time for Bonsam making these kinds of claims. It’s a pattern, really. Back in 2014, he claimed responsibility for the knee injury suffered by Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo before his team faced Ghana. Things got weird there.
“This kind of injury,” Bonsam had said then, “it can never be cured by any medic. They can’t see what is causing it because it’s spiritual.” He kept going on: "Today, it's his knee, tomorrow it's his thigh, next day it’s something else."
Bonsam isn't just some regular witch doctor. The details are wilder than the claims. According to The Indian Express , he runs a chain of schools and shrines. He wears high-end tracksuits. Owns a cattle farm. Fourteen children. And he drives a Cadillac. Yeah.
And don’t forget, he once ran in a parliamentary election too.
After that Boston draw, Bonsam made another move. He claimed that since Ghana kept Kane quiet, now was the time to lift whatever curse stopped him from scoring. It got really dramatic there.
He posted something on Facebook about it: “I am the most powerful spiritualist in the whole world now I am going to release Harry Kane so that his next match he can score a goal harry I will come and visit you ok we are brothers I love you soo much.”
A real mess of claims, isn't it? Spiritual power mixed with tracksuits and farm animals. You just have to look at the whole picture.
