Admissions Open at Major Dhyan Chand Sports University: Sports and Diploma Programs

Admissions are finally open at Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut. They’re looking at undergraduate stuff, postgraduate deGrees, even some diploma programs for the 2026-27 session. Applications stay open until July 10th. That's the deadline hanging over everyone right now.

This year, they rolled out a bunch of new courses too. We’re talking Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports BPES . And yoga stuff. B.Sc. Yoga and M.Sc. Yoga are on the menu. But it’s not just deGrees. They launched specialized diploma programs aimed squarely at folks wanting careers in sports or related fields.

And don't forget the diplomas offered by the School of Coaching. They have one-year PG Diplomas focusing on things like Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Hockey, Kabaddi, Wrestling, and Yoga. It’s a lot of specific training being offered right out of the gate.

Admission Slots and Special Considerations

The numbers they’ve set aside are pretty concrete, though. Fifty spots for BPES. Forty for B.Sc. Yoga. Twenty for M.Sc. Yoga. And fifteen slots specifically for the PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication. That's just a snapshot of what they’re trying to accommodate right now.

But there’s something else that shifts the whole admission dynamic. It’s not just about merit anymore. They made room for direct entry for outstanding sportspersons. Athletes who have actually represented India Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, those big international events they get a shot at getting in directly. That changes things completely.

And they aren't stopping there. There’s an extra layer of consideration built in too. Ten percent seats across all the programs are reserved for meritorious sportspersons. These spots exist above the standard intake capacity. It’s about recognizing past achievements, you know?

Officials mentioned that medal winners from Khelo India events, School Games Federation competitions, and national championships get special attention. That means more focus on those specific achievements. Medalists across various age categories are being looked at closely.

University Structure and Admission Process

Vice-Chancellor Major General Deep Ahlawat put a few numbers down too. He said the university is planning twelve total programs for 2026-27. Nine of those are diploma courses. Two undergraduate slots. And one postgraduate program overall. It’s a tight structure, trying to fit everything in.

How do you actually get in? It's not just about grades anymore. The process involves a fitness test. Merit is determined by mixing Class 12 scores with how well someone performs in the physical assessment. That blend seems to be the core method they’re using.

The idea behind all this new program structuring, officials suggest, is practical training. They want skill-based learning. Creating real career paths in sports coaching, fitness, media, and those related sectors. It's about making sure students actually get hands-on experience.

Ultimately, the big goal here seems to be twofold. First, supporting athlete development. Second, contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s bigger push to upgrade sports infrastructure and education across the state. That’s where the long-term vision lies. It’s more than just admitting students; it’s about building something in the region.
