Devyanshu Bhardwaj's Journey: From East Delhi to IIT Aspirations

Devyanshu Bhardwaj grew up in East Delhi. You could see the struggle right there in the air, you know? Every rupee felt heavy back then. It wasn't just about money; it was about how everything was measured for him.
Life got really tough after an accident happened with his father. Suddenly, work stopped being regular. That put a massive weight on his mother. She had to step up completely, running the house, juggling everything, working those long hours as a tailor just to keep things afloat. It sounds brutal.
But Devyanshu didn't break. These difficulties? They weren't stopping him. In fact, I think they forged something in him. A kind of hard core strength, maybe.
He went on to study at the School of Specialised Excellence, SOSE, over in Khichripur. There, he found his footing. People noticed it. He was known for being disciplined. Really focused. He pulled off an excellent 97% in Class 12 under the Delhi Board system. A good score, definitely.
Yet, even with that academic success, the road ahead felt steep. It wasn't just about school exams anymore. The pressure to aim higher, towards things like JEE Advanced that was a whole different level of intensity.
Financial strain meant expensive coaching classes were out of reach. That forced him into a very specific way of studying. He didn’t have the luxury of endless hours spent on premium courses. So he built this incredibly strict daily routine. Consistency became his mantra. He focused on making sure nothing fell behind. No backlogs allowed.
He told reporters about it, trying to explain the mindset. “I focused on maintaining consistency rather than studying for extremely long hours,” he said. It’s that kind of focus you have to develop when resources are limited. Attending classes regularly, finishing assignments exactly when due that was the game plan. He made sure those school concepts stuck.
And here’s where things got interesting. He looked at online education. PhysicsWallah’s course came into play. His take on it was pragmatic. “I believe online education can be sufficient,” he said. But only if you have good stuff. Quality content, real guidance, and constant practice opportunities. That’s the key.
He pointed out that this whole online thing hinges entirely on self-discipline. If you aren't committed, it falls apart fast. Still, he saw the potential. Excellent teachers available now. Study materials floating around. Doubt-solving support. Test series ready to go. It seemed achievable. Effective. For things like JEE Advanced , if you stay locked in and use those tools right, online learning works really well.
He reflected on the syllabus itself too. The Delhi board curriculum, based on NCERT that was his bedrock. He felt that foundation was crucial. But he knew the reality: JEE demanded a deeper dive. It wasn't just about memorizing; it was about true problem-solving skills. That’s the gap between school application and advanced testing.
He mentioned that as he tackled the JEE, there were moments when the syllabus just felt overwhelming. Tough stuff. Required real patience. He adapted. He learned to push through those difficult concepts. Regular practice really carved out that understanding for him. It was a slow grind, honestly. Improving piece by piece.
His motivation wasn't some abstract idea. It came straight from home. His family. That was the engine driving everything. The whole pursuit of an IIT seat felt like more than just getting into a prestigious college. It was about building something tangible for them. A better future. Stability. Security.
He really hammered home that point. “My biggest motivation was my family,” he stated. He wanted to support his parents, fulfill the dreams they held back because of financial constraints. IITs represented this opportunity. They seemed like the best route for real growth and a secure career in India. The JEE felt like the necessary gateway to that security. That desire to create something stable for them that kept him going through all those intense preparations.
He aimed big. He decided on Electronics and Communication Engineering. IIT Roorkee was his first target. But he wasn't boxed in. Considering options meant looking at places like IIT BHU too. It’s a huge goal, that kind of ambition. To take everything you have and try to mold it into something secure for the people who raised you. That weight must be immense.
The journey itself from the constraints of East Delhi to aiming for an IIT seat it wasn't smooth. There were inevitable bumps. Moments where the sheer scale of the goal felt impossible against the backdrop of daily struggles. But Devyanshu managed it. He showed that focus, even when everything else was fighting against you. It’s a story about sheer will, really. About how determination can carve a path through real-world obstacles. And that's what he managed to do.
