Dissent within TMC: Rebel MPs Seek Alliance with NDA and NCP

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from the Rebel Trinamool Congress camp said something on Sunday. She basically claimed that this dissident group would team up with the NDA at the Centre. Work under Modi , they said.

This came after some meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. It was happening amid all the noise inside the party right now. Things are really getting messy in TMC .

She told reporters about twenty MPs from that dissenting camp. They met the Speaker and asked for separate seating arrangements in the Lower House. That’s what they pushed for.

The real move, though? She also brought up merging with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India . It seemed like that was the direction. The faction insisted they were committed to working for the nation, backing the NDA , whatever Modi was doing at the top.

“We,” she said to the reporters, “these twenty MPs elected from AITC, we met the Speaker and asked to sit separately. They have more than two-thirds of our strength, you know? We are merging with NCP now. Moving forward, we will work for the nation and collaborate with the NDA under the leadership of the Prime Minister.”

Sudip Bandyopadhyay , another rebel MP, confirmed this too. He talked about merging with the Nationalist Citizens Party . He added some stuff about the system itself. Said if you leave with two-thirds of the party strength, you can’t just demand the name of that party on day one. There's a bit more to it.

He mentioned something about July. A demand for Trinamool because they had that majority from the TMC . Then the court would decide things. It sounds like a lot of back-and-forth happening behind the scenes, you know?

The whole thing followed some huddling. The dissident members gathered at Union Minister Bhupender Yadav’s place in New Delhi first. Some names popped up there: Satabdi Roy , Saayoni Ghosh , Mala Roy , Bapi Halder , Prasun Banerjee . And BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was also hanging around too.

This whole sequence of events? It just shows how much trouble the TMC is in right now. Since they lost in the West Bengal Assembly elections, this turmoil has really escalated. Over the last week alone, a bunch of MPs have publicly pulled away from the party leadership. They’re showing support for the NDA government at the Centre.

Dastidar claimed earlier that this rebel group had backing from twenty-two Lok Sabha MPs. They were preparing to get formal recognition as a separate parliamentary group. There was some letter sent to the Speaker asking for that recognition under Dastidar's lead. And then, Friday, some papers surfaced with signatures from nineteen TMC MPs. It’s all moving fast. Very unevenly.
