Former Agniveers Getting Reservation in Direct Recruitment for Delhi Jobs

Former Agniveers are getting a twenty per cent reservation in direct recruitment for some Group ‘C’ jobs in Delhi. That came after the Lieutenant Governor reviewed things.
Departments got orders. They have to change their rules and sort out all the paperwork by June 30th if they want this quota to actually happen. It feels like a push, doesn't it? A real effort to make something stick.
The review wasn’t just some casual chat. It happened with the Chief Secretary, the Delhi Police Commissioner, and other senior folks there. There was weight behind it.
The administration says this is part of a bigger deal. The Centre wants to give employment options to ex-Agniveers after they finish their military service. Just trying to make sure people have somewhere to go.
What exactly does this mean on the ground? It covers direct hiring for some frontline roles. Think police constables, firemen, jail warders, forest guards, and wildlife guards. These are the jobs that actually use that training.
Eligible ex-Agniveers applying to various Delhi government offices and agencies should be able to claim this benefit. It’s about making sure they can apply for these spots.
And it's not just a small piece of the pie. The departments were also told they could assign some former Agniveers to posts that really need the skills, the discipline, the training they picked up in the armed forces. Using their experience directly.
All those concerned departments had to finalize the procedural changes and rewrite recruitment rules by June 30th. It’s a tight deadline. Implementation has to happen.
Sandhu put it out on X. He said something about equal opportunity, making sure they see their service recognized when they apply for these jobs. He stressed that this is about using what those former soldiers learned in public service roles now.
The scope just got much wider. It’s not limited to one department anymore. Now it stretches across multiple agencies in the Delhi government. That changes things significantly.
Remember, earlier this year, the Delhi Police already made a move. They revised their hiring rules to set aside twenty per cent of constable spots for ex-Agniveers. There were age relaxations and other exemptions included then too. A start, sort of.
Bringing more departments into this fold means the benefit spreads out. It hits a much broader range of Group ‘C’ posts across the capital city.
It aligns with what the government is pushing nationally. The objective there has always been to offer job opportunities for ex-Agniveers once their service ends. It connects back to that whole Agnipath system, you know?
The Agnipath scheme itself started in 2022. It’s about young men and women joining the armed forces for four years. Some people move to regular service; others transition into civilian careers after serving. This reservation feels like another part of that larger shift toward post-service employment.
Reservations and relaxations aren't new. The Union government already announced these for Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles. Other states have also introduced similar things in their own police and service recruitment. It’s a pattern, really. A growing trend.
It’s all about utilizing that experience. That training. Making sure the investment they made in military service translates into real opportunities outside of it. The practical side of it is what matters most now. Getting these administrative hurdles cleared by the deadline seems to be the immediate focus for everyone involved. Things move fast, sometimes messy.
