JAAC Protest Movement Gears Up for March to Muzaffarabad

The protest movement run by JAAC is gearing up for something big on Wednesday. Thousands of demonstrators are getting ready to march from Rawalakot all the way to Muzaffarabad. This happens because the group feels the government hasn't acted on their demands yet. They missed whatever deadline they set for implementation.

For days now, people have been camped out at sit-in sites around Rawalakot. JAAC leaders are pushing everyone from across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to join this mobilization. It’s meant to be a decisive move against the administration.

Abid Shaheen, a member of the JAAC Core Committee, put out an appeal before the march was planned. He asked everyone to gather at the Rawalakot site at 11 AM on July 15th. This timing was set so they could start moving at noon.

“All friends, relatives, men and women are appealed to join the Rawalakot sit-in at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 15,” Shaheen said in that appeal. “So that at 12 PM, a march may proceed from the sit-in site through Rawalakot city towards Muzaffarabad, and together we raise our voices against this oppression and brutality.”

This whole march is following an earlier announcement by JAAC. They said they would start moving to Muzaffarabad if the authorities didn't stick to their demands within the set time frame. The committee has been pushing demonstrations over various issues lately civic stuff, governance problems. Protests have started building up in different parts of PoK these past few weeks.

The authorities are definitely tightening security ahead of this planned movement. The deployments they put in place during earlier protests are still active. Travel warnings have also gone out because they expect large crowds heading toward the regional capital. Things feel really tense right now.

This whole situation hits at a sensitive point politically. Elections for the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly are coming up on July 27th. Leaders from parties like the PPP, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, are trying to talk things down with the protesters. They want an end to this agitation, of course. They’ve also suggested setting up some sort of “Truth and Reconciliation Commission.” Trying to deal with grievances before the polls, they say.

Meanwhile, reports coming from local areas suggest that things aren't calm everywhere else either. There are worrying reports about a recent incident in Baloch Bazar. The death toll there has reportedly gone up to twelve. But this number isn’t confirmed by any official source yet.

So, when thousands are expected to move toward Muzaffarabad on Wednesday, that march seems like it’s going to be a real test. A big one for both the protesters and how the authorities handle things before those elections arrive. It feels like everything is moving fast.
