Controversy Surrounding Govind Namdev and the Film Kala Hiran

Govind Namdev has pulled back from Kala Hiran . It’s all because the first look video caused a huge stir. That initial glimpse brought up obvious links to Salman Khan.

The film itself, made by Amit Jani, is supposed to be about the Bishnoi community and seeking justice. Namdev was in it, playing an advocate fighting for them. But he says he never knew the real story. He felt completely blindsided.

He claimed he was kept in the dark about what was actually being made.

The controversy picked up steam fast. Salman Khan didn't stay quiet either. He took the film to the Delhi High Court asking for a stay on release.

That’s the knot right now.

The teaser dropped on June 12th. It opened with something about dedication to Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan and the Bishnoi community. But what people really saw was Kashif Iqbal Khan. He looked like Salman Khan. Wearing that black T-shirt, the signature bracelet. That immediately triggered things.

Then you think back to the old story. The 1998 blackbuck poaching case. It ties back to Hum Saath Saath Hain . Salman was accused of hunting those blackbucks near Jodhpur. The Bishnoi community filed complaints then against him and his co-stars. That history hangs over everything now.

When Namdev saw the trailer, he said he was shaken. Totally shaken. He felt it was nothing like what he had aGreed to work on.

He spoke to Amar Ujala . “I watched the trailer and I instantly understood something was wrong,” he told them. “We were never told a character looking like Salman Khan would be there.” There’s this massive gap between what they showed me and what actually happened.”

He made it clear too. He won't support any gang, not even ideals. “I cannot consider any Bishnoi gang as my ideal,” he asserted. “I was just doing the courtroom part. But seeing this now? It makes me uncomfortable.”

There’s a layer there about how they framed it. The teaser talked about protecting wildlife. It said the film was inspired by that famous 1998 incident. It claimed to adapt authentic literature. A profound testament, they called it.

But then you look at the fine print. Makers put up a disclaimer. Fictional stuff. All characters are made up. Any resemblance is just coincidence. They admitted elements were fictional for entertainment. Still, that doesn't stop the reaction. The central figure in the teaser still looks too much like Salman Khan.

Meanwhile, legally things got moving. Salman Khan went to court. He argued the poster and the film itself reference him blatantly. He said it spreads a false narrative. It contradicts what happened in court records.

A vacation bench of judges looked at his plea. They issued notices to the filmmakers. The matter is up for hearing on June 19th. Release date still floating around. But the legal pressure is definitely on now.

Namdev’s side was about being misled. He had an earlier understanding. He was told it was called Sambhal . His role, he thought, was just courtroom scenes. Facts already in court. He aGreed because there seemed to be nothing new to add. That feeling that he was presenting recorded facts is what made him aGree to participate initially.

But that changed when the story shifted. When they showed him this version of Kala Hiran . It felt like a complete detour. A different world entirely.
