Internal Fight and Leadership Changes within Trinamool Congress

The internal fight inside the Trinamool Congress really blew up this week. It’s getting serious.

A faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, the Leader of the Opposition, actually put forward a new leadership setup on Monday. They elected MLA Arup Roy as their chairperson. This immediately puts a real challenge to Mamata Banerjee's authority in the party structure.

It happened during some sort of special session. Lots of rebel MLAs, councillors, and senior leaders were there. They announced a bunch of organizational appointments. The whole point seemed to be setting up an alternative power center inside the TMC.

Rebel Camp Announces New Leadership

A few names popped up for key roles. Former minister Aroop Biswas got one of the vice-chairperson spots. Firhad Hakim, Rathin Ghosh, and Sabina Yasmin were also named there. Then there were general secretaries: Ritabrata Banerjee, Javed Khan, Biplab Mitra, and Sandipan Saha. And Raghunathganj MLA Akhruzzaman Ansari got the treasurer role.

They assembled a National Executive Committee too. It was packed with names. Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Rathin Ghosh, Imani Biswas, Golam Rabbani, Snehashish Chakraborty... you name it. Ashish Banerjee, Narendranath Chakraborty, Dinen Roy, Samar Mukherjee, Shiuli Saha, Sabina Yasmin, Akhruzzaman, Biplab Mitra, Javed Khan, Gangaprasad Sharma, Prasun Banerjee, Badal (alias Surajit), Khageswar Roy, Kajal Sheikh, Arup Roy, Chandranath Sinha, Abhijit Sinha and Arunava Sen. A massive list.

But there was one major omission. Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary? He wasn't included in this new National Working Committee. That part feels important. It just deepens all the speculation about who’s actually loyal right now.

Ritabrata Banerjee made a move trying to calm things down a bit. He said they followed the party constitution. They claimed they would show the proceedings to the Election Commission. And they hinted that district committees, state units, and spokespersons are coming soon. Trying to build up their footprint.

Even while pushing themselves as the "real" TMC group, Banerjee tried to be nice about Mamata Banerjee. He said she was welcome to act as the faction’s chief adviser if she wanted to. “If Mamata Banerjee wants to be the chief advisor, she is most welcome," he put it. A slightly conciliatory tone amidst all this noise.

All of this latest stuff just screams how intense the crisis really is inside the TMC. They've been struggling with dissent since they lost in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The rebellion wasn’t just internal anymore. It spilled over into the legislature and Parliament too. Some MLAs and MPs were openly backing the dissidents, questioning who was actually running things at the top of the party structure.
