Nancy Guthrie Disappearance and Ransom Notes

A second note came out days after Nancy Guthrie vanished. It was sent to the media. This one, according to NBC News, said she had died. The 84-year-old, that’s her age, was gone.

Investigators are looking at a few things here. They think whoever wrote those notes the first one and this second one might be connected to how Guthrie disappeared. CBS News reported something about the fact that both ransom demands seemed to come from the same computer address. That detail stuck with people.

The content of these messages is weirdly different. The first note, the one they found initially, asked for millions in bitcoin. A big demand. But this second note? Nothing. No money demanded. No apology offered. No request for her body payment either. Just silence about the ransom.

Sources who looked at that second message suggested something else entirely. They indicated it pointed toward Guthrie being dead. Not intentionally killed, they thought.

Nancy Guthrie went missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1st. She was last seen around 9:45 pm the night before. Ten days later, the FBI found some doorbell camera footage. It showed an armed, masked man outside her house that morning. The agency labeled him a suspect.

The first note, sent on February 2nd, hit local TV and TMZ tip lines. It had specifics. Details about Guthrie’s home were in there. An Apple Watch with a white band was lying on the bedroom floor. The back porch light was broken. And then the demand for crypto followed. That’s what they reported.

Then came the second note, sent on February 6th. Investigators noted it had a similar tone, similar language style to the first one. But crucially, there was no money asked for this time. Just that strange message about her death.

After that second communication, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings made something public. They released an Instagram video. It was their way of talking to whoever was holding their mother.

Savannah said they got the message. And she said they understood. Then came the plea. "We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace."

She added something about paying, too. Holding hands with Camron and Annie, she mentioned that this felt valuable. That they would pay whatever was asked.

In an interview in March, Savannah said her family thought those two notes were real. It’s a complicated thing, seeing it from the outside. She admitted there are tons of other notes out there. Most of them… not real. But the two ones they responded to? She leaned toward believing those two were genuine.

The FBI and Pima County detectives are still working on this. They keep digging into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, trying to find whoever is responsible. The search continues.
