Samik Bhattacharya and Mahua Moitra: Allegations and Political Friction in Bengal

Samik Bhattacharya, the West Bengal BJP president, just shot back at Mahua Moitra’s claims. She alleged that BJP workers actually threw eggs at her during a protest over in Nadia district. But instead of addressing the egg incident itself, he pivoted. He pointed fingers at internal Trinamool Congress chaos.
Bhattacharya made it clear: this egg-throwing has to stop. And then there was the jab about Moitra herself. He said the TMC leader who is supposedly hiding back home needs to actually show up in the field. Because really, the TMC is attacking the TMC. It’s all internal mess, not some external attack happening on the streets.
He also got philosophical about how things are supposed to be identified. How exactly does the police figure out who was involved? He asked a weird question. How can the cops spot eggs in pockets? There isn't some magic machine for that, you know? Metal detectors don’t work for eggs. So why not bring in a new machine? Because Bengal doesn't have this tech yet. And he wasn't sure if the country even had one.
It got messy there about who was actually responsible. He admitted he didn't know whose pockets those alleged eggs were in. That’s up to the TMC now, apparently. They need to figure out which leaders or workers are carrying them. The core message kept circling back: stop the egg-throwing. It’s actively damaging Bengal’s image.
This all happened after Moitra put out that video. She claimed BJP workers were shouting and throwing things when she visited Palashi, going to a TMC meeting at MLA Alifa Ahmed's place in Kaliganj. She said they called her names “chor,” thief and threw eggs. The video was shared online.
The police did show up eventually. Some senior district officer said they reached the spot and scattered the crowd after talking things over with everyone there. Routine cleanup, maybe. But that didn't erase the story Moitra posted.
This wasn’t a one-off thing for Mahua Moitra. It feels like this whole drama has been brewing for a while. There was another incident, way back on June 13th. BJP Mahila Morcha workers allegedly tried to hurl eggs at her outside a court in Krishnanagar. She was connected to some separate legal trouble then too.
Moitra reacted hard to that one. She warned she would push things through the legal channels. Approach the police, maybe the High Court, sure, even the Supreme Court if they needed to. A threat hanging there.
So you have this cycle. Allegations float around. Reactions are immediate and sharp. And then there’s the history of it. It just keeps moving. The tension isn't fading anywhere, it just shifts focus. You see that kind of friction everywhere in Bengal politics, always layered on top of itself.</p
