Murder Investigation: Deception and Discovery in Rajkot

A man from Rajkot, from Gujarat, apparently fell into a relationship with someone he met online. A "girl," they said.
Things escalated fast. Within a short time frame, Piyush Kumar started living with Poonam and even got married to her. But then, something shifted. One day, Piyush allegedly found out that Poonam wasn't who he thought he saw him shaving, and the realization hit him hard. It turned out his partner was actually a man.
That discovery caused arguments. A lot of them. Eventually, Piyush left Chandan. He moved away.
But this wasn’t the end. The police investigation points to something much darker. They claim Chandan had been posing as a woman on social media for about three years. That's when things got really bad.
Days later, Piyush allegedly murdered Poonam. The body was found nearby. Police identified it as Chandan Kumar. It was recovered near the Muscat Phatak railway wall in Rajkot on June 25th.
It started off looking like an accident. A tragic mistake. But when they did the post-mortem examination, the findings were different. Severe head injuries. That’s when the police stopped seeing it as just an accident and started treating it as a murder case.
Investigators dug into how this began. Piyush first connected with someone using names like "Nisha Kumar" on Facebook and "Poonam" on Instagram. Both accounts, they found, were allegedly run by Chandan Kumar. He introduced himself as a woman all along. Dainik Jagran reported that detail.
They said the couple started living together. But there was this strange dynamic. Chandan reportedly avoided physical intimacy because of religious vows. Piyush, however, accepted him as his wife. There were rituals involved, applying sindoor for the marriage. It all seemed real to them at the time.
The truth finally came out when Piyush saw the shaving. That realization broke everything. Arguments flared up afterwards. And then Piyush just left Chandan.
Meanwhile, Chandan didn't just disappear. Police claimed he followed Piyush. He trailed him through Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. They eventually reached a factory in Rajkot’s Padwala area, where Piyush was working.
June 21st, they allegedly had another fight at that factory. Things were tense then. Then came the final act. Piyush allegedly took Chandan to some deserted spot near a railway track. There, he attacked him with big stones. He killed him. And then he hid the body under those rocks before going back to work and finishing his shift.
CCTV footage and other evidence helped police piece this together eventually. They arrested Piyush. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to what happened. The investigation is still moving forward now.
