Changes Planned for NEET UG Medical Entrance Exam

Significant changes are being planned for the NEET UG medical entrance exam . There’s a parliamentary committee pushing for a complete overhaul of the entire pattern. They brought up serious security worries, you see. Conducting that test for more than twenty lakh candidates all at once just doesn't sit right with them.

So what they suggested was holding the exams in multiple shifts. Something like JEE Main . Trying to smooth things out and make it safer. It’s a big pivot if that gets approved.

Then there’s the move to make everything fully computer-based. The National Testing Agency, NTA , is assuring everyone that they’ll handle it securely. They say every measure will be taken so it stays transparent and malpractice-free. That recent test back in June, the one held on the twenty-first people generally seemed to think it went down smoothly enough for now. If these changes stick, we're talking about effects starting around 2027.

But there’s more than just the format. During those committee meetings, some MPs floated another idea. They suggested separate entrance exams. For MBBS. And AYUSH courses. Even nursing needs its own track. The thought is that students would get something course-specific. Better opportunities for them.

It got a little tricky there. One source told ANI about it. They asked how this would work, and the NTA responded quickly. They said admissions are all based on those NEET scores anyway. So separate exams wouldn't really be feasible. That part of the argument just stalled.

Ultimately, the Union Health Ministry gets to decide the final call on that specific proposal. Meanwhile, the agency is still working through the recommendations from the Radhakrishnan Committee. They’re trying to implement these changes slowly. Focus is placed on making the whole system more transparent and efficient, piece by piece.

The push for a computer-based test comes with a huge caveat though. The committee stressed something important: you can’t just flip a switch. You have to build up this nationwide digital infrastructure first. That needs to be strong everywhere. This is crucial. Students in rural areas or smaller towns need guaranteed access. No technical headaches during the exam because of poor connectivity.

The source reiterated this point. If NEET moves to CBT mode, they absolutely must ensure that the necessary infrastructure is solid across the entire country. Everything has to be ready well in advance. That preparation phase matters a lot.

And then there are the other things buzzing around. The committee wasn’t just focused on logistics. They also brought up something heavier. Concerns about artificial intelligence. How it's creeping into education and employment. And honestly, there’s this growing worry about social media’s influence on kids these days too. It feels like a whole mess of issues demanding attention.
