Antonio Conte and the Future of the Italian National Team

Italy just missed the World Cup again. Third time in a row. It’s left the Azzurri and everyone watching feeling pretty lost.

But you look at Antonio Conte . He doesn't see just failure. He sees a chance.

After Gattuso got sacked, that changes things. Napoli’s boss is suddenly floating around as a potential choice for the national team job. And Conte? He’s not holding back.

He started talking. Really talking.

“It is only right that my name appears on that list,” he said after that game against Milan.

He went further. If he were the FIGC President, he’d put himself in there, along with others. For a lot of reasons, he’d put Conte on that list.

There’s that history, of course. He was there before.

He said he’s worked with the national team. He knows the atmosphere. Being the manager means representing the country, right?

Still, it’s not simple.

He’s still tied up with Napoli. Contract runs until '27.

“But you know my situation,” he admitted. “We’ll see.”

Beyond the immediate manager drama, Conte pointed to bigger stuff. The whole system.

Every time they miss out, they have to rebuild. He said he’s seen little help from the teams, though. Something needs to shift.

He’s had some recent wins, though. Fresh off delivering Napoli their fourth Serie A title last season. Five league trophies in Italy, he’s managed to turn them around again.

They’re sitting second now. Chasing Inter Milan. Seven games left. That’s the reality right now.
