Pakistani Air Strikes in Afghanistan: Civilian Casualties and Regional Tensions

The death toll from those reported Pakistani air strikes in eastern Afghanistan has jumped up to nineteen, TOLO News is reporting. The targeting was in Manay village, Spera district. At least one woman and eight children were killed there. Several others also got hurt.

Sources mentioned the victims were mostly young kids. They were aged between seven and ten years old. That detail sticks out.

The Taliban chief spokesperson and government spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid , said these strikes hit Khost, Kunar, and Paktika provinces. He claimed at least thirteen civilians died in total. Eleven children, one woman, and an elderly man were listed as casualties. Mujahid wrote on X saying the attacks resulted in those deaths. He called them a “humanitarian crime and act of aggression.”

A local official in Khost told AFP about a strike hitting a house in Spera district. Nine people died then. Ten others got injured too. In neighboring Paktika province, residents reported another attack in Barmal district. They said it targeted a home. Three civilians were killed there. One resident claimed the victims were children again.

Pakistan hasn't offered any immediate confirmation or response about these military actions. It just sits there.

These strikes happened right after India started criticizing Pakistan at the UN Security Council regarding air strikes in Afghanistan that allegedly caused huge civilian losses. Remember that? Earlier, on May 21st, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN made accusations. Harish Parvathaneni said Pakistan was responsible for cross-border violence causing hundreds of deaths and injuries back there.

The latest stuff just keeps pushing the focus onto how bad things are along that Afghanistan-Pakistan border. A UN report mentioned something grim too. In the first three months of this year, at least 372 Afghan civilians were killed. Three hundred ninety-seven others wounded in that whole conflict.

Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban government have been super tense ever since the Taliban took over in 2021. It’s a history of friction.

Pakistan keeps pushing Afghanistan to act against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan , TTP. Islamabad sees that group as a massive threat. But the Afghan side counters that Pakistan itself supported hostile groups acting against Afghan sovereignty. That kind of accusation just fuels the fire between them.

Things got even worse after explosions hit Kabul in October 2025. That event really escalated things for both sides.

These new air strikes just add another layer to an already fragile situation. Both sides keep throwing accusations around about security and cross-border militancy. It’s a constant exchange of blame, isn't it? The whole setup feels unstable right now.
