Lucknow Fire Tragedy: CM Reacts, Government Offers Relief

Monday brought a terrible scene in Lucknow. A massive fire tore through a coaching centre, and the cost was horrific at least fifteen lives lost.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reacted fast. He announced immediate relief for the victims’ families, handing out an ex gratia of five lakh rupees to the next of kin for each person who died. And not just that, he declared financial assistance of fifty thousand each for those who were injured.

Earlier in the day, things got even more intense. Adityanath made a stop at King George’s Medical University (KGMU). He met with the people who had been hurt there. He didn't just look; he inspected the damaged building itself. There was an assurance from him then: strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for this disaster.

The CM actually went to see where it happened.

He got to the fire site around six fifteen in the evening. It was a three-storey commercial building that had caught fire. Sanjay Prasad, the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), and some senior police officers were there with him when he looked things over. You can follow live updates if you want.

Later, Adityanath went up to look at the upper floors. He reviewed how the rescue and relief work was going on. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and the Lucknow District Magistrate Vishakh G also showed up at that spot, according to what they said afterward.

After all that inspection, he headed over to KGMU, which is about five kilometers away. There, he met five people who were injured and receiving treatment. He asked them straight up about how they were doing. He made sure the hospital staff understood they needed to give the victims the absolute best medical care possible.

He talked to the families too. At the hospital, Adityanath assured them no official would get away with this. No one responsible for the fire would be spared. After getting all that information about the tragedy, he cut short his planned trip and headed back to the state capital instead of continuing toward Aligarh.

The blaze itself was quite dramatic. It started Monday afternoon in a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area.

Fire department reports said they got an alert around three in the afternoon from the coaching centre on Usha Mehta Marg. They sent out fourteen fire engines, including that big hydraulic platform vehicle, right away to try and tame those flames.

What happened inside was pure panic. As the fire spread through the structure, students made a desperate choice. Several of them jumped from the first floor just trying to escape the thick smoke and the roaring heat. Videos captured the sheer terror people watching while firefighters were racing in. It was chaos.

Brajesh Pathak visited the site too. He wanted to see how the rescue effort unfolded. He told reporters that an order for a high-level inquiry had already been issued. The Principal Secretary (Home) and even the DGP were summoned there. They were told to investigate everything, figure out what caused it, and make sure action is taken immediately so this kind of thing never happens again. Pathak said he saw fourteen bodies himself at the site.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke up. He expressed deep grief over the loss of life in the Lucknow fire. He announced his own contribution too an ex gratia of two lakh for the families and fifty thousand for those injured.

"I am anguished by the loss of lives in this mishap," PM Modi said on X. "My condolences to the bereaved families. Hope the injured recover quickly. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are helping out as much as they can."
