Poco X8 Pro Max Review: Performance, Camera, and Endurance

Poco. It’s a name you just see everywhere, right? Even now, it’s mostly just Xiaomi’s side project in this market. But the X-series ? That line always brought the performance buzz. So when they dropped the X8 Pro Max this year, the hype was already massive.

Does it deliver something worth the extra cash? We put it through the wringer to find out.

Let’s talk about the look first.

It’s actually pretty clean. Not trying to be flashy, which I guess is fine. The design language is simple, and that makes holding it comfortable. You don’t feel like you’re wrestling a brick. It’s got a big screen, which naturally makes the whole thing a bit bigger, but it works.

The materials feel premium, too. Aluminium for the frame, and the back is glass. That glass panel just adds a certain quality. And the ratings—IP68, IP69. That stuff is becoming essential, you know? It’s a practical thing these days.

Then there’s the screen.

And the brightness?

The bezels are thin. They just melt into the display. And that little punch-hole? It’s not annoying. It just sits there. You get decent viewing quality, and those deep blacks on the panel are pretty good for watching stuff.

Now, the engine under the hood.

That hardware is built for heavy lifting. It handles daily stuff fine, but for power users, gaming, it’s definitely capable. It’s a 3nm process chip, straight from the flagship Dimensity 9500. The response from the hardware setup is that it’s powerful. It handles the load without whining.

They also threw in a bigger vapor cooling system. That’s smart. It lets the heat out properly. The thermal throttling figures weren't terrible either. Poco managed to tune the heat well enough to keep things smooth.

But the software?

It’s running on Android 16, but it doesn’t feel clean. You’ve got a ton of pre-loaded apps cluttering things up.

They did add some optimization tools for gaming, sure. But the overall fluidity? It just doesn't score high enough. Still, they’re pushing for four OS upgrades. Fingers crossed those roll out faster than usual.

Cameras.

This is where it gets less smooth.

You get the standard 50MP main sensor with OIS. With the Max variant, you get an 8MP ultrawide. The main photos are detailed sometimes, sure. But the colors... they look forced. Overprocessed in places. It feels like the software tuning is lagging behind the hardware.

The ultrawide? Nothing special. Just average shots. You get basic details, nothing dynamic.

Endurance, though. That’s where the X8 Pro Max really shines, maybe.

That 9,000mAh battery is massive. And it keeps the phone alive. They also packed in 100W wired charging. And that reverse charging feature? It works as a power bank, which is useful.

Seriously, the battery life is top-tier for this segment. I ran a PCMark test, and it clocked over 22 hours.

It’s a workhorse. The power is there, the cooling works, and the battery is killer. But yeah, the software and the cameras still need a serious polish. Still, for buyers looking for serious specs in this expensive market? It’s a strong contender. It’s a solid option.
