Testimony of Jeffrey Epstein's Former Executive Assistant

Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime executive assistant told the House Oversight Committee something heavy. She claimed she had no knowledge of the late financier’s sexual abuse crimes. She described him as a "monster," a "master manipulator" who managed to keep his secret life completely hidden from everyone around him.

Lesley Groff worked for Epstein from 2001 until 2019. That’s eighteen years. And she testified about it all in the ongoing investigation into Epstein’s network and activities. In her opening remarks, she insisted she only understood the full extent of his crimes after he was arrested. She maintained that while employed by him, she was unaware of any abuse whatsoever.

“I want to say without any doubt,” Groff told lawmakers, “I have come to believe the man who employed me from February of 2001 through July of 2019 was a monster .” There was pause there. Then came the kicker: “For eighteen years, I worked for Dr. Jekyll but was never permitted to see the true Mr. Hyde.”

She said Epstein deliberately kept his public life and private life totally separate. He made sure employees couldn't learn about his criminal conduct. It was a calculated separation.

“Mr. Epstein was, in hindsight,” she continued, “a master manipulator and deceiver. He separated his legitimate life from his secret life as an abuser, and made sure those two worlds did not collide.”

This testimony puts one of Epstein’s closest former aides right under the microscope now. Groff managed a lot for him. Schedules, travel, meetings, appointments she was involved in all that coordination. She became one of the most significant witnesses before these lawmakers.

When they asked about the massage appointments she routinely scheduled for Epstein, her response was measured but firm. She said she believed the women she contacted were professional therapists. No reason to suspect anything criminal there.

She stressed that none of those women ever told her they were minors or victims of abuse. And she kept saying she never witnessed any conduct that would have alerted her to what was happening with Epstein. Groff also made it clear: she had never been abused by him. Both Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, actively discouraged her from getting involved in their circles.

Since Epstein’s arrest and subsequent death back in 2019, things got much harder for Lesley Groff. She said she faced serious personal consequences. Harassment. Death threats. Social isolation. It weighed heavily on her.

She addressed the victims directly too during that testimony. “My heart breaks for these women,” she said plainly. “I believe them. Words just can’t express how badly I feel that I was employed by Mr. Epstein during the time he abused these women. I will live with this horrible feeling for the rest of my life.”
