Controversy involving Lord Krishna, Islam, and Maulana Jarjis Ansari

Lord Krishna Namaz Row. That’s what started it. A controversy blew up after some video surfaced involving cleric Maulana Jarjis Ansari. He allegedly claimed Lord Krishna was Muslim. And that Krishna offered namaz five times a day. It went viral on social media fast.

This whole thing immediately triggered protests. Hindu organizations got loud. They demanded action. An FIR was registered against him in Lucknow. The police are looking into it now.

The video itself? It reportedly comes from some religious address given in Jharkhand back on June 23rd. But that’s not even the main point anymore. It resurfaced right in the middle of the ongoing Krishna Janmabhoomi-Eidgah Masjid dispute. Hindu seers and right-wing groups were furious. They said the remarks deeply hurt feelings about religion. Demands for his arrest followed quickly.

What was actually being cited? Ansari pointed to Chapter 6, Verse 10 of the Bhagavad Gita . He used it to make these claims. Said Krishna himself offered prayers five times daily. Then he went further. He asserted that if Hindus just studied their scriptures enough, they would start loving Islam. Claiming Islam wasn’t just for Prophet Muhammad. No. It was preached by Lord Ram and Lord Krishna too.

But here's the rub. The actual translation of that verse? It talks about meditation. Self-discipline. Detachment from worldly stuff. Nothing about Islam. Nothing about namaz or praying five times a day is there. It just doesn’t fit the claim being made.

The reaction from religious leaders was intense. Ayodhya-based Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das stepped in. He accused Ansari of completely misinterpreting the Gita. The backlash wasn't just about theology. There was a demand for tangible action. He announced something kind of a reward. Ten lakh rupees. For anyone who would just "cut off" Ansari’s tongue.

“He doesn't know even a single word of Sanskrit,” Das said, quoted by IANS. “He is misinterpreting verses from the Bhagavad Gita .” That was the tone. Deeply offended.

Political figures also weighed in. BJP leader Manish Shukla called the remarks a total "conspiracy." He demanded an immediate probe into everything. Dinesh Falahari, president of the Shree Krishna Janma Trust, echoed that call for serious legal action against the cleric.

Ansari isn't new to trouble either. There’s history there. In 2022, he faced criticism over marital issues. And then, a completely separate mess surfaced that year. A Varanasi fast-track court sentenced him ten years in prison for a 2016 rape case. Allegations of sexual assault under the guise of marriage and blackmail. It’s complicated stuff.

So you have the religious outrage. You have the legal complaint bouncing around. And underneath it all, there are these older issues dragging along with him. Just a messy picture unfolding in Lucknow right now.
