Nitish Kaushal and the Bhagwanpuria Organized Crime Group

Nitish Kaushal. An Indian-origin gangster. He’s been arrested in the US now. Days after getting added to the FBI's Most Wanted list. That’s where it started.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced this stuff on Thursday. They said US law enforcement actually took him into custody in Vermont. It happened weeks after they kicked off Operation Hard Ball. A real coordinated crackdown, catching fifteen people linked to three different organized crime groups that have ties back to India. Things are moving fast.

US authorities slapped charges on thirty-four people related to the activities of Lawrence Bishnoi , Jaggu Bhagwanpuria , and Dhanda . Kaushal was one of them. Before he got arrested, he was still out there. One of the eleven guys who were either hiding or just not in US custody at all.

He faced some serious stuff too. Charged with RICO Conspiracy . That’s when the US District Court for California issued an arrest warrant against him on June 25th. A real warrant.

The FBI website laid out what they were alleging. Kaushal is wanted because he allegedly was involved in a transnational criminal organization. Murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion all of it. Weapons, money laundering, human smuggling too. This whole thing, they call it the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Organized Crime Group . The "Bhagwanpuria OCG." It started in Punjab, India. But somehow, this group operated across California and elsewhere.

The FBI claimed Kaushal carried out violence for this syndicate. Kidnappings. Assaults. Not just some random acts. He was allegedly doing dirty work on behalf of the Bhagwanpuria OCG .

Look, they warned people. They said Kaushal is dangerous. Armed. An escape risk. You should share anything you know about where he is with the local FBI office or an embassy. It’s that simple.

The details get tangled when you look at the structure itself. The Department of Justice mentioned that the Bhagwanpuria gang was founded by Jaggu Bhagwanpuria , thirty-eight years old. He’s currently stuck in Indian prison. But this group evolved. Once he became an associate of the jailed Lawrence Bishnoi , Bhagwanpuria started pushing back. Rivalry turned deadly.

It’s not just a local thing anymore. Investigators said this organization blew up into something much bigger. More than a thousand members and associates worldwide. Over one hundred in the States alone. And it's alleged to be running things in Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand. Everywhere you look.

And here’s the kicker. Prosecutors also hinted at corruption deeper inside. They said this gang allegedly worked with corrupt police officials back in India. Extorting money from victims. That kind of stuff doesn't just happen by accident. It requires a system. A whole network running things across borders.
