Delhi Government Pushes for AI Solutions in Public Services

The Delhi government is really pushing for AI solutions . They’ve invited startups, tech firms, and research groups to come up with AI ideas for public services. Think health, transport, city planning—everything.
This came through an Expression of Interest, which the Department of Information Technology released on Tuesday. They asked these companies to show off their AI-based solutions that are already commercially available. And they need proof—at least one successful implementation, either domestically or internationally.
The goal isn't just abstract ideas. They want tangible stuff.
Selected organizations might then get invited to present their solutions. Show the live products. The whole thing is set up as an AI innovation showcase, organized by the department itself.
The scope is huge. They’re looking at smart governance, how services get delivered, smart cities, monitoring the environment and air quality, health and digital health, mobility, education—and other stuff that matters to the city.
The government basically said they want to find innovative AI solutions that can actually be adopted or piloted across different government departments.
It’s not just some isolated project. It signals a shift. Delhi’s use of AI is going to spread way beyond small departmental projects. It’s about wider governance, touching infrastructure, healthcare, how people move around, and environmental monitoring.
This move isn't entirely new, though. Last month, News18 had reported on something similar. They were looking at an AI system for road monitoring. The idea was to detect potholes and debris, and track construction work happening on the roads. That’s part of the effort to keep the city roads in better shape.
The Public Works Department, or PWD, is actually working on something similar now. They’re trying to build a centralized AI platform. It’s meant to aggregate and manage road complaints coming from all sorts of different data sources. That way they can track things better and sort out problems faster. They even invited quotes for developing this system.
When you ask around, some government officials just said AI is the need of the hour. They want to use it to genuinely enhance how public services run.
The official who spoke to News18 added something about scouting tools. They said the government is looking for market-ready AI tools. The idea is they could eventually pilot these across various departments, depending on the pitches they receive.
It’s a big ask. The Expression of Interest was put out back on May 12th. The deadline for submissions is June 1st. That’s the timeline they’re working with now.
