Fuel Prices and Market Updates: Petrol, Diesel, and CNG

Petrol , diesel , and CNG prices hung steady on Friday, June 12th. Nothing moved there officially. But behind the scenes, oil market companies and those running gas distribution firms are still tweaking things every morning at six.

Still, you saw movement elsewhere. Petrol and diesel had already jumped by about seven point five rupees per litre so far this month, just driven up by those crude prices bubbling up from West Asia. That stuff always hits the consumer.

The government stepped in Thursday with some new rules, though. They shut the retail fuel outlets down for industrial, commercial, and institutional buyers. You can’t just grab petrol or high-speed diesel anymore off the shelf. You have to go through bulk points or use your own pumps now. This restriction is set for ninety days initially. They might extend it later if things keep going sideways.

Over in the gas cylinder market, things were already costlier. Domestic LPG prices jumped by twenty-nine rupees starting June 7th. That was the second bump in just three months. For Delhi, a standard fourteen-point-two-kilogram cylinder now costs ninety-four-two, up from ninety-one-three.

Commercial rates followed suit too. They hiked prices on June first. A nineteen-kilogram cylinder in Delhi jumped by forty-two rupees, hitting three thousand one hundred thirteen point five zero. It’s a steep climb for those dealing with commercial use.

CNG saw its own little increase in Mumbai. Two rupees per kilogram added now eighty-six. That followed fifteen days of the previous hike being rolled out. Domestic PNG gas is also getting pricier, pushing up by fifty paise to fifty-two per standard cubit metre now.

When you look at where the real pressure was felt geographically, things are really messy. Hyderabad still led the pack for petrol prices on May twenty-fifth, sitting at one hundred fifteen point six nine a litre. Thiruvananthapuram was right behind that, holding at one hundred fifteen point four nine.

But then there’s Chandigarh. That place managed to keep its petrol price lowest among all these spots, hitting ninety-eight point one zero per litre. Lucknow and New Delhi also stayed relatively tame compared to the bigger metros. They were hovering around one hundred two point zero five and one hundred two point twelve respectively for petrol.

Diesel prices tell a different story. In terms of diesel, Thiruvananthapuram had the highest rate, hitting one hundred four point four zero per litre. Hyderabad followed closely with one hundred three point eight two. Meanwhile, Chandigarh was again at the bottom, sitting at eighty-six point zero nine. That’s the lowest diesel price in the group.
