Political Allegations and Family Divide in West Bengal Politics

Something really explosive just happened in West Bengal politics. Babun Banerjee , the brother of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has dropped some serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress leadership. It’s a massive signal, really, about how fractured things are inside the state’s most prominent political family.
He launched a real tirade. He claimed his sister had disowned him ages ago. And then he started hitting senior party leaders, specifically throwing shade at former Sports Minister Aroop Biswas and Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose . Babun accused them of actively sabotaging his entire sports administration career, using state-sponsored intimidation, all that stuff.
This kind of talk—it’s dropping major political hints that could really shake up regional alignments. He made a big move, praising the Chief Minister and some big BJP figure, Suvendu Adhikari , calling him an "elder brother" who stood by him when things got tough. And the kicker? Babun didn’t rule out joining the saffron party. He said he wants to stay safe, to protect his future within the sports and maritime space.
The internal family divide is stark, it really is. Babun detailed how he’s been completely isolated from the top echelons of the previous ruling setup. It became impossible for him to even get past the heavy security cordons to reach either Mamata Banerjee or Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC National General Secretary.
He defended himself, insisting he wasn't some opportunistic turncoat. Instead, he argued that Aroop Biswas was the one who set things up. He alleged Biswas intentionally planted rumors about him joining the BJP during a trip to Delhi. Babun argued the real split wasn't just between them, but at the very top. He suggested his sister had long viewed Biswas as more of a brother than him, which somehow opened the door for all that administrative high-handedness.
But the core of this mess seems to be about the sports bodies. There are serious accusations about how democratic processes were messed with in West Bengal’s sports organizations. Babun claimed Sports Minister Aroop Biswas went to extreme lengths to hurt him professionally. He said Biswas fought him during the Bengal Olympic Association elections just to clear space for his own brother.
The way he described it—it wasn't just a simple loss. Babun alleged the defeat was orchestrated. It involved the direct deployment of the state police force. Plus, aggressive financial pressure. He claimed Biswas systematically threatened voters, warning various sports groups that their state funding would freeze if they voted against him.
This pattern of pushing people out didn't stop there. It spread across multiple sports. Babun directly implicated Sujit Bose in taking over the Bengal Hockey Association. He accused the minister of forcibly snatching control.
So, what’s the current status? Babun mentioned a strategic meeting he had recently with Union Sports Minister Nishith Pramanik . Because of that, he stepped back from most of his sports roles. He only holds onto the Table Tennis Association now. He explicitly stated he wants to work within the current central system, just to survive in the sports arena.
The most politically charged part, honestly, is this open courtship of the BJP leadership. Babun described Adhikari as a trusted parental figure, someone who offered crucial support during his time of professional isolation. He expressed an urgent need to meet and talk to Adhikari about the future of sports governance in Bengal.
This kind of open admiration gives the ruling party ammunition. They’ve always accused the TMC of running a highly centralized, intolerant family oligarchy. Now, this rebellion is laid bare. As the political fight intensifies across Kolkata, the Trinamool is scrambling. They are trying desperately to contain this domestic fracture that has exposed the deep cracks right at the foundation of their power.
