Sonam Wangchuk's Protest and the Demand for Accountability

Sonam Wangchuk’s protest, kicked off by the Cockroach Janta Party , is moving toward Parliament now. It’s their ‘Chalo Sansad’ march. They are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The reason? Alleged NEET paper leaks . Student suicides. Everything about the whole exam system just feels broken right now.

People political leaders, actors, regular folks they gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Even while the authorities were setting up security arrangements. It’s a lot happening simultaneously.

The Metro Rail Corporation stepped in on Monday. They shut down five stations. Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth. All because of security worries related to this protest march. DMRC posted something on X saying they would keep them closed until they get more instructions. Just a pause, really.

Meanwhile, there’s the legal side messing things up too. No permission has been given for the CJP’s planned march to Parliament when the Monsoon Session starts. There’s a prohibitory order in force across the New Delhi District right now. Section 163 BNSS is active. It strictly bans protests, processions, demonstrations, assemblies of five or more people. Except at Jantar Mantar, and only with prior permission. That's what the DCP posted on X.

The CJP still insists on protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. But the police report says they haven’t even approached them for official clearance yet for this march. This whole thing started after Sonam Wangchuk announced it. He was actually moved to the hospital Saturday morning, which adds another layer of immediate pressure.

Wangchuk had made a clear line earlier today. He said he would end his hunger strike. But only if the government accepts responsibility. Accountability for those failures in education the leaks, everything or if Members of Parliament promise him they will tackle this during the Monsoon Session starting Monday. That’s the condition hanging over everything.

The Delhi Police also gave a warning. Anyone caught breaking these prohibitory orders faces trouble. Prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other laws apply. It’s serious.

It’s this unfolding tension that seems to define the air right now. The protest is happening, the trains are stopped, and the legal boundaries are being tested.
