Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon: The Friendship Behind Welcome To The Jungle

Welcome To The Jungle , starring Akshay Kumar, is finally heading to theaters soon. There’s a lot of noise about it, though. Mostly that reunion. Akshay and Raveena Tandon. After twenty-two years, they’re back on screen for this comedy directed by Ahmed Khan.

Ahmed Khan talked about it recently with Mid-Day. He brought up how Raveena reacted when he asked her to join the film, knowing Akshay was playing the lead. They were joking around on set, talking about their kids too. Just that kind of ease.

He mentioned something about casting them. His long friendship with both stars, he said, played a huge role. Knowing Akshay and Raveena for over thirty years that comfort level, that understanding. It comes from just being friends for so long.

“Both Raveena and Akshay have been good friends to me,” Khan said. “We know each other for ages. We know what happened in everyone’s lives.” That felt real.

The idea of bringing them together? It was all about giving people something nostalgic, he explained. He figured audiences would be excited seeing the pair. A treat. Akshay supported it too. He just told Khan to cast whoever fit the role best.

“People want to see Raveena and Akshay together,” Ahmed Khan joked. “Why not do some fan service?”

When Khan approached Raveena for the project, she seemed totally fine with working alongside Akshay again. She actually said something like, “So what? We’re all actors, grown up now. We’re friends. We’ll have a blast on set.” That was the mood, apparently.

It wasn't awkward. Not at all. They spent time just chatting off camera. Laughing about things. Talking about their kids. It just reflected how much time passes in this industry. People move past things.

They reminisced about older movies too. The whole film world is small. Everyone moves on, you know?

You have to remember the history too. They weren't exactly paired romantically in Welcome To The Jungle . But they share scenes. And a song by Rahul Shetty and Prince Gupta ties them together there.

Their history carries weight for Bollywood fans. Think back to Mohra from nineteen ninety-four. Iconic songs like Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast . That memory sticks.

Khan recalled one shoot day vividly. The atmosphere flipped when Akshay and Raveena filmed a dance sequence. Everyone on the set clapped. Suniel Shetty, who was also in Mohra , walked over. He just said, “Arre, mere Mohra ki jodi aa gayi.” A moment like that.

There was nothing awkward about it then either. They were friendly. Just joking and talking about their kids while working. It showed a certain maturity. The industry is tight. People deal with the past and move forward. That’s just how things are in this space.

Akshay has his family now, Twinkle Khanna and their kids Aarav and Nitara. Raveena has Anil Thadani and Rasha and Ranbirvardhan. Their lives have moved on. The bond between them is rooted in that shared history, not just the screen time. It’s a different kind of connection, really.
