Katy Perry Met Gala Misinformation and Viral Claims

It’s the Met Gala. Honestly, nothing surprises the internet anymore. Dramatic outfits? Yeah, expected. Wild theories? Even more expected. But this time, things got a little too fiery online. Fans were just left doing a double take.

A viral claim popped up recently. It suggested Katy Perry had actually set herself on fire on the red carpet. People were confused. Some were genuinely worried, though.

Then you had the reactions. Disbelief mixed with dark humor. “Why would you light her on fire?” one person asked. Another one just threw in, “Katy Perry sets herself on fire for the #MetGala.” Then you had the alternative take. Someone claimed it was about her dress. “Katy Perry is setting her dress on fire at the #MetGala to promote her new single ‘Watch It Burn’.” Another photo surfaced. Perry with the dress looking on fire. The caption just screamed: “KATY PERRY IS WATCHING IT BURN AT #TheMet.”

But here’s the thing. None of it actually happened.

The video everyone was seeing? It has absolutely nothing to do with Perry or the 2026 Gala. It’s an old clip. From a controlled fire stunt. Crew members, cameras, extinguishers. It’s clearly a filmed sequence. Not a red carpet moment at all.

The misinformation picked up serious traction, though. That clip got around about 1.4 million views. People kept resharing it. The confusion just multiplied. Even Grok, the AI chatbot, stepped in to clear the air. It basically said: “She’s fine. That’s not Katy Perry. It’s old behind-the-scenes footage from that telenovela. No fire. No burns. Classic viral mix-up.”

In reality, Perry showed up at the event in a completely different look. A white gown paired with a futuristic silver mask. She stayed very much on-theme. No actual flames involved. Just a massive, messy mix-up.

Earlier too, this misleading clip had surfaced. It was falsely linked to some supposed music video. A Facebook page shared it with a caption like, “An Alleged Behind-The-Scene from Katy Perry’s ‘WATCH IT BURN’ music video.” Just pure noise.
