Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty's BWF World Tour Comeback

The wait for BWF World Tour titles felt endless for Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. Seventy-four two days, that’s how long they were stuck in that drought. But they finally broke through. They won the Singapore Open.

It was a huge deal. They became the first Indian doubles pair to snag that title. They fought hard in the final against Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. It was a real grind, a 73-minute battle where they fought back from being down.

They walked away with their third Super 750 title. It ended a tough couple of years. Two years marked by injuries, four runner-up spots, eight semifinal exits.

But even with that history, Chirag wasn't buying the idea that they were inconsistent.

“I wouldn’t call it inconsistency,” Chirag said during a media chat. “I think we were actually quite consistent. To be number three in the world inconsistent? I think everyone else past number one should just stop playing badminton.”

The real issue, it seemed, wasn't form. It was fitness .

Their struggles came down to physical setbacks more than a drop in skill. Back in June 2025, they dropped to world number twenty-seven after being sidelined for a long time. But by November, they were climbing back up. Into the top three.

“Nobody has seen that comeback,” Chirag added. “Coming back from injuries, going from twenty-seven to three.”

Satwik echoed that feeling. Injuries were the biggest roadblock, plain and simple.

“It’s just part of the game,” Satwik admitted. “Not everyone gets injuries. You have to manage your body, especially mine, with that more attacking style of play.”

Despite all that frustration, they never doubted themselves.

“We kept doing what we had to do,” Satwik said. “But yesterday? Yesterday was our day. We played way better, even in bigger tournaments, but we just didn’t get the result.”

This win felt important. It happens right now. The World Championships are coming up. And the planning for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is already kicking into gear.

Things shifted a bit too. Mathias Boe came back in as a consultant. Tan Kim Her, their long-time mentor, was also involved. Both players felt that the coaching setup helped them sharpen up their preparation.

Looking forward, Satwik still feels good about what they can achieve.

“On a good day,” he said, “we can beat anyone. I think our absolute best is even more. We just have more tools than the other players. It all comes down to us, how fit we are, how ready we are.”
