Sonam Wangchuk's Protest and Legal Action

Sonam Wangchuk’s protest stuffers. The agitation by the Cockroach Janta Party kept going into Tuesday. Delhi High Court is set to hear a petition now. It alleges the Delhi Police used way too much force against protesters at Jantar Mantar. Urgent listing before the court seems to be the next step.

Security around Parliament? Tightened up further. More barricades put in place, amid fears of more demonstrations. Just keeping things tense.

Down at Jantar Mantar itself… people stayed camped overnight. Rain poured. Security was high. Remember Monday’s police crackdown during that ‘Sansad Chalo’ march? It all happened while they were there. Volunteers were seen cleaning up the protest site early Tuesday. Even though the stage was basically the only thing left standing after the police dragged away tents and whatever else they set up during the eviction drive. The canopy got damaged too, from the action.

Abhijeet Dipke, the CJP founder, talked to his supporters. He apologized for injuries during those clashes. Some protesters told him their stories. They said police guys without visible name tags just assaulted demonstrators. Including women. Called them “terrorists.”

Dipke also pushed back against what was floating around social media. Speculation that senior leaders had just walked away from the protest? Dismissed it. He said spokespersons, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, did travel to meet Union Minister Nadda. Trying to sort out this standoff with the government.

The whole thing keeps circling back to Sonam Wangchuk. The indefinite hunger strike is now twenty-four days long, according to CJP leaders. He’s been fasting since Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi Police moved him there on July 18th.

This protest started back on June 20th. It demands accountability. Irregularities in those competitive exams. Changes to education reform. And resignation from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Monday’s march toward Parliament was violent. Protesters and police both blaming each other for the chaos that erupted.
